Breisach upon Rhine – situated between the Black Forest and Alsace Breisach is one of Germany’s oldest towns. The historic part around the famous cathedral St.
Stephansmünster is situated on a hill above the Rhine river. This strategic point is the main reason why there has been a permanent settlement for more than 4000 years. Take a stroll over the hill and discover the traces of the Celtic, Roman, French and Austrian population of the past. Enjoy the views from the cathedral terrace or the

Franciscan monastery garden: you can see the Black Forest, the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl and the Vosges mountains. Extend your tour with a visit to the Museum of City History. It is situated in a building which was erected as a triumphal arch for the Sun King of France.
Breisach is titled “European City” and regards itself as a link between Germany and France, in particular between the Black Forest and Alsace. It is a good starting point for excursions by car or public transport to many interesting destinations, for example Kaiserstuhl, Colmar, Strasbourg, Basel, Freiburg and Titisee.

Breisach is a popular stopover for cruise ships which travel between Amsterdam and Basle.
Wine lovers shouldn’t miss a visit to one of the wineries: The Badischer
Winzerkeller, one of the largest wineries in Germany, offers tours through the impressive wooden barrel cellar. The Geldermann private sparkling wine cellar creates sparkling wine using the traditional bottle fermentation process directly below the Breisacher Münsterberg.

From spring to autumn the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg are a paradise for hiking tours. You can discover the unique flora and fauna on several theme trails. For cyclists we propose many tours of different lengths and levels, also crossing the border to France. A popular route is the EuroVelo 15 along the Rhine river.
Our tourist office, located at Marktplatz 16, D-79206 Breisach am Rhein, also offers packages for stays between 3 and 7 nights.
